EMT

On behalf of the officers and members of the Atkinson Fire Department we would like to thank you for your interest in our organization. As an active member, you will receive valuable EMT education along with the rewarding experience of serving your community.

We are always in need of more help, especially from residents interested in supporting a dedicated and hard working service for the town and its residents. Inexperienced but willing hands are needed and are necessary for our success. Training as an EMT starts from learning CPR for rescuers to patient care and can continue to advanced care and training as an EMT – Advanced. The department will also provide the skills needed for a successful career and the care for patients.

Some of the State and National Skills you will Develop as an EMT will include:

  • Medical Aid and Transport
  • CPR for Healthcare Providers
  • Assistance to the Public
  • Lift Assists
  • EMT State & National Certification

We hope the above descriptions will help you better understand the department and its role in supporting the town and its residents. All members are ‘paid on call’ for emergency work and training.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Be a resident of Atkinson or live within 3 miles of the Atkinson Town Line
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Have a satisfactory driving record and a current state of NH drivers license
  • Have a valid telephone number
  • Be a high school graduate or have equivalent GED

Other Requirements:

  • Interview with the Board of Engineers
  • Pre-employment Physical, Hepatitis shot series, and flu shot series (paid by dept.)
  • Must Successfully complete NH Certified EMT Course within one (1) year
  • Attend monthly training sessions
  • Cover at least 1 duty ‘on call’ shift from 10:00PM – 6:00AM (on a rotating 8 – 10 day schedule)
  • Respond to other emergencies when available

Ongoing Requirements:

  • CPR refresher training and state approved courses (paid by dept.)
  • National Renewal and State Licensing every 2 years
  • CEVO Driver Training (one and done – paid by dept.)
