When Do I Need A Building Permit
Building Permits are required for the following types of projects:
- New Construction, Addition, Remodels or Alterations
- Decks – including rebuild of existing
- Re-roof
- Siding
- Window Replacements
- Pools - In ground and Above Ground over 24” deep
- Sheds / Accessory buildings (over 200 sq ft)
- Finished Basements
- Solar Installations
- Handicap Ramps
- Installation of above ground or underground fuel tanks
- Any type of heating equipment (wood, coal, oil, gas, pellet)
- Any type of electrical service
- Any type of plumbing service or gas piping
- Driveways, new & existing for work in the town right of way *
Work exempt from Building Permits:
- Ordinary repair: ie – painting, papering, carpeting, cabinets, countertops and similar finish work.
- Accessory buildings under 200 sq ft
- Fences
- Retaining Walls
- Patios or other hardscaping
- Lawn irrigation systems (make certain lawn irrigation is not placed in the town right-of-way)
