Why Update the Master Plan?

The purpose of updating the Atkinson Master Plan is to:

    -   Acknowledge the actions the Town has accomplished from the earlier Plans and create an updated vision and corresponding actions for the future.

    -   Analyze the existing conditions of the community to understand what has changed and to identify what issue the community needs to prepare for and address.

    -  Identify and prioritize focus areas and actions for land use planning, regulatory initiatives, natural resource protection, and capital improvements to achieve the Town’s vision. 

The updated Plan will reflect the town’s identity and reinforce its future vision by serving as an action-oriented document and planning tool for the next 10 years. It will also provide insight on the current conditions of the town by examining topics such as existing and future land use, development, open space and recreation, natural resources, transportation, community facilities, and others. The Master Plan will assist in determining effective public policy, programs, and land use decisions for Atkinson’s future.
