New to Town or 1st Time Registering a Vehicle in Atkinson? Please read this.

Town Clerk Welcome Information

FYI:   Whether new to town or this is your first time registering a vehicle in your name (no matter how long you have lived in Atkinson), you will need to prove residency at the Town Clerk's Office.  

Welcome! 

This letter provides lots of information to help you get settled in Town.  To learn more about Atkinson, visit the Kimball Library to receive a newcomers welcome packet. 

All vehicle registrations, boat registrations, voting registration and dog licensing are processed at the Town Clerk’s office within the Town Hall, 19 Academy Ave.  We also process New Hampshire Marriage Licenses and Vital Records requests.

The first step is Proof of Residency.  Please review the list of documents needed and complete the attestation if applicable.  

If you moved to Atkinson from INSIDE New Hampshire,  bring the  proof of residency information listed above, and any vehicle registrations that need renewing as well as a completed Change of Record Request.

When registering vehicles & trailers NEW to NH, the following is required for each vehicle/trailer:

  • Color of vehicle/vehicles

If you do NOT have the original title in your possession (lien or leased vehicle):

  • Copy of out-of-state registration(s)
  • Bills of Sale from original vehicle purchase if you have it/them, OR dates of sale and the odometer reading at time of purchase
  • Current lienholder information or lease information if applicable.

If no lien or lease:

  • Original Certificate of Title for owned vehicles if applicable.

Vehicle registration estimates are provided using our estimating tool. Please have your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) handy.

Do you have a dog? Dogs are required to be licensed in the state of NH within 30 days of residency.  Click here for information on how to register your dog with the Town Clerk’s Office.  

To register to vote in Atkinson you can visit the Town Clerks Office to complete a Voter Registration Card.  You will need to bring your current vehicle registration (if it was issued out of Atkinson) or proof of residency as detailed above, driver’s license and passport OR birth certificate.  For more information: Registering to Vote in NH.

NH Driver’s Licenses are issued out of the NH DMV Sub-Stations.   Appointments are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.  Visit the NH DMV site for more information.   We recommend you visit our office prior to applying for an NH Driver’s License.

The Town Clerk’s Office business hours are Monday, 8:30-7pm, Tues-Thur, 8:30-5pm, and Fridays, 8:00-Noon.  Also, the Town of Atkinson website has a lot of information as well.
