Our Mission

The Town of Atkinson provides emergency assistance in accordance to NH R.S.A. 165 to individuals and families who lack adequate resources. The Welfare Office acts to facilitate services by directing those in need of assistance to relief agencies at the county, state and federal levels, as well as to non-profit organizations who provide assistance to the needy. We strive to promote self–reliance and independence to all we serve so they may be productive members of this community

Eligibility for assistance is determined by having each individual complete an extensive application in order to provide an overview of the specific situation the client is in. Assistance is provided for individuals basic necessities in accordance with State law and Town Guidelines. The applicants that are found eligible are assisted on expenses such as food, heat, electricity, rent, prescription drugs and other basic living and working needs.

How to Apply 

  • Download an application form.
  • Call the Selectman's office Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. and Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at (603) 362-1064 and request an application be mailed to you.
  • Pick-up an application located at the Town Hall at the Selectmen's Office.
  • After completing the application you can either drop it at the Selectmen's Office at Town Hall, mail it to Town of Atkinson, 19 Academy Avenue, Atkinson, NH 03811 or scan and email it to TownAdmin@atkinson-nh.gov.
  • Once a decision has been made, you will receive a letter in the mail along with a Notice of Decision Form that must be signed and returned to the Selectmen's Office.
