SUMMER JOBS

We are hiring summer camp staff and summer college internships. Contact Recreation director or town website for more information.  

GENERAL

Town Wide Beautification Week was the week of April 20th to Friday, April 28th, but you can still beautify your neighborhood streets. Free trash bags and gloves are available at the Recreation Office.

PARKS

  • Parks are open and Spring season for the sports leagues has begun.
  • Dog owners, please clean up after your pets.
  • Tennis Courts maintenance project is scheduled sometime in June – crack repair and resurfaced– one tennis court by the parking area will be converted to two pickleball courts and other tennis court will remain with two lined pickleball courts.

The prep work has been done on the first court by the parking area, this court is only for pickleball players using two portable pickleball nets. Another court by the woods is for tennis players, if there are no tennis players at the time pickleball players can use two pickleball lined courts.

 

YOUTH PROGRAM

Kids Fishing DerbyThe Atkinson Recreation Commission invites Atkinson children up to 12 years old to our 27th Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby at the Atkinson Town Hall Pond - 19 Academy Avenue Atkinson NH) on Saturday, May 13th. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the Fishing Derby runs from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Please bring your own poles and worms but no power bait is allowed at our derby. Prizes will be awarded to anglers, who caught “first fish, biggest fish, smallest fish, first five fish, and most unusual catch, Boy Scout Troop 9 will be helping with registration and measuring the fish, Atkinson Women’s Civic Club will provide complimentary water. juice packs and refreshments

Youth summer program Sun ‘n Fun 2023 - Registration is open.

  • For children first to sixth grades in Fall 2023
  • Monday to Friday, June 26th to August 4th (Closed on July 3rd and 4th) 9:00 am ~ 3:30 pm

New program:

Introduction to Acting Workshop for mature adults, who love or want to learn to act. Free 5-week session starts on May 23rd. You will learn about Theatre and basis of acting. If you would like to know more information about this workshop, please come to the Expectation presentation on May 9th 1 ~ 2 pm. Pre-registration encouraged. Instructor is Sheila Schaefer -Sheila Schaefer has been entertaining herself (and hopefully others) since she was a child. She has earned her master's degree in Theatre Education from Emerson College. She has taught acting at the Palace Theatre, Granite State College, and Salem High School. For 12 years Sheila was one third of the performing group Stories and Stuff, a traveling group of musical storytellers. Finally, Sheila has been a performer, director, choreographer, producer, stage manager and set designer for many, many, many college, and community theater productions.

 

Trips:

Trip to Fenway Park Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays – Sunday, August 6th. $108 per   person, includes deluxe coach bus transportation, bus driver’s gratuity, and a game ticket (Infield       Grandstand Section 22 Ros 16~18). Tickets on sale on April 19th 4:30 ~ 5:30 pm at the Recreation Office at Atkinson Community Center.

 

The following trips are organized by Best of Times Travel. Registrations are open for all trips.

  • “The American Music Cities of Nashville & Memphis” September 21st ~ 25th, 2023. The information day is scheduled on Thursday, May 4th at 1 pm at the Atkinson Community Center.

 

  • “Stayin Alive” Bee Gees Tribute Show” on May 23rd at Danversport Yacht Club, Danvers, MA. This great show by “Stayin’ Alive” features the vocal trio, backed by studio musicians who capture the sound mystique of the Bee Gees. The show is a powerhouse! The cost of this great trip is $119, including deluxe coach bus transportation, show, luncheon (Stuffed Breast of Chicken or Baked Schrod) with salad, potato, vegetable, breads, dessert, and coffee/tea. Bus leaves from Atkinson Community Center.
  • “The Ultimate Glen Campbell Tribute Show” on Thursday, July 20th at Castleton Baquet Center, Windham NH. $79, including show and luncheon (Pork Tenderloin or Vegetarian Lasagna)

This is a drive on our own trip.

 

  • “The Corvettes Doo Wop Revue” on Wednesday, August 9th at Fosters Clam Bake, York, ME.$119, including deluxe coach bus transportation, show and Lobster bake luncheon, or a BBQ Chicken.

 

  • “Neil Diamond & Friends” show on Thursday, September 7th at Castleton banquet Center, Windham NH. $79, including show and luncheon (Chicken or vegetarian lasagna)

This is a drive on our own trip.

 

  • Dancing Dream” ABBA Tribute band on Thursday, November 16th at Danversport Yacht Club, Danvers, MA. $115, including deluxe coach bus transportation, show, and luncheon (Thanksgiving dinner or vegetable lasagna).

 

  • “Christmas at Newport Mansions: The Breakers and Marble House) in December. TBD

 

Weekly Wellness

 

Temple Exercise (Tai Chi): Mondays 9:00 am ~ 9:30 am. Donations are $1 for local food pan- tries / class. Banquet Room.

 

Line Dancing: Mondays 9:45 am ~ 11:15 am. $5:00 / class. Banquet Room.

  • Bereavement Support Group for parents: 1st Tuesday of each month 5/2/23. Beth Hendershot (603) 887-4302. Room 1.

 

  • Bingo:2nd Mondays 9:45 am ~ 11:30 am. (small fee) 5/8.23. Minimum eight people Room 2

 

  • Foot Clinic: 3rd Wednesday each month, for their scheduling conflict, it will be on Friday, 5/19/23. Cost per visit $25:00. Clinic is staffed by a Registered nurse. By appointment only, for information or to schedule an appointment, call (603) 580-6668.

 

  • Veterans Club: Regularly on the 1st Tuesday each month 9:30 am ~10:30 am. 5/2/23. Banquet Room.

Rental Information

Are you planning a family gathering and looking for a place? Atkinson residents can rent out our Banquet room for their special gathering for a very reasonable fee - $175 for 4 hours, you can bring food and soft drinks. Smaller conference rooms are also available to rent. Please contact the Recreation office for availability.

Donation bins

There are three donation bins at the Community Center parking area. Accepted donations include CLOTHINGS AND SHOES ONLY. Do not leave any other items outside of the bins. If the bins are full, please come back another time because your donations will help the Atkinson Women’s Civic Club’s charitable funding and keep our environment green.
