When do I need a Building Permit?

  1. A(1) - Work Requiring a Building Permit:
    1. New deck or replacement
    2. Sheds (anything over 200 sq.ft.)
    3. Reroof
    4. Handicapped Ramp
    5. Driveways, New & Existing (for work in right of way)
    6. Aluminum or Vinyl Siding
    7. Window Replacement
    8. Inground Pools and Above Ground Pools over 24" deep
    9. Finished basements
    10. New Construction/Additions
    11. New or Changes to Heating Devices, including boilers, furnances, wood, gas, pellet stoves, etc
    12. New or Changes to liquid or gas fuel storage including above and buried units
    13. New or Changes to Business Permits
  2. A(2) - Work exempt from Building Permit. Permits shall not be required for the following:
    1. Ordinary repair, i.e. painting, papering, carpeting, cabinets, counter tops and similar finish work.
    2. One-story detached accessory structures, provided the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet, i.e. storage sheds, gazebo, pool house.
    3. Fences
      1. We recommend you put the finished side to your neighbor.
      2. We recommend you place the fence one foot+ from your property line for ease of maintenance and if you plan to erect a fence across the front of your property, you should confer with the Road Agent to discuss the edge of the town’s right of way.
