Meeting Schedule

  • The Hitsorical Society meets 6-7 times a year at the Kimball House Museum - See Community Calendar for Schedule

  • The AHS participants in two or three other events per year including a Kimball House open house in December and the Labor Day Antique Car and Truck show which was formerly hosted by the AHS. We have also participated in the annual tree lighting at the Atkinson Country Club.

  • The Atkinson Historical Society will also bring other historical programs to Atkinson, some from New Hampshire Humanities. These programs generate much more interest and are typically hosted at the Kimball Library.

About Us

  • AHS Ojective
  • - To collect, acquire, secure, preserve and display records and materials pertaining to Atkinson's history at the Kimball Museum in the Parson Peabody House.
  • - To restore, replace and preserve by any method necessary, on site or by moving, historical objects of any kind, such as monuments, buildings, gravestones, etc.
  • - To maintain guardianship over whatever presents itself under the term "Atkinson New Hampshire History".
  • What does this organization do?
  • - Collect and archive various articles pertaining to the town
    • Likely the largest scrapbook collection in Atkinson.
  • - Research issues as presented by the public
    • Can include details on Atkinson historic homes or meeting with out of town visitors to share information on WWII veterans.
  • - Catalog Museum Collection
    • The Atkinson Kimball House Museum has incoming collections and existing items that need to be photographed and logged.
  • - Host local organizations
    • The Atkinson Historical Society has hosted Cub Scout dens, Brownie Troops, Girl Scout Troops and classes from the Atkinson Academy for museum tours.
  • - Maintain the Kimball House Museum
    • Currently assisting the town in the preparation of a proposal for building exterior maintenance.
  • - Restore, Replace and Preserve
    • The repairs suggested on the Kimballl House to the Atkinson selectmen to preserve the current building.
