Fence at Pope Road:
The Board of Selectmen received an e-mail from Recreation Commission Chairman P. Mangini concerning repairs to a fence at Pope Road (copy attached). There had been a letter from a parent whose child was injured, upon running into the broken gate, which has its cement bottom exposed. In addition, there is a gaping hole under another section of the fence, through which children have been crawling as a shortcut to the bathrooms. She also pointed out that the cement around the picnic tables is now exposed. She has repeatedly asked Care of Grounds Supervisor E. Stewart to repair these items, however the situations still exist, and represent a peril to the children for whom the playground was designed.
Chairman Sapia responded with an e-mail to Town Administrator R. McAllister to have E. Stewart repair these as soon as possible.
P. Sullivan asked for the two letters referenced in Chairman Mangini’s e-mail so he would have all of the facts about the problems. He assured the other two members of the Board that he would see that the repairs are made promptly.
2007 Town Report:
As is the prerogative of the Chairman, J. Sapia said that he would like to see a professional picture taken of all of Atkinson’s Veterans for the cover of the 2007 Town Report, such to be taken on a Saturday as soon as possible. Both F. Childs and P. Sullivan thought this was an excellent idea, however P. Sullivan suggested waiting until the fall to have it done.
F. Childs agreed to casually inquire among the Town’s veterans to see how this concept would be regarded.
When asked who would be co-coordinating this effort, Chairman Sapia responded that he would check with R. Magoon.
Old Business:
Chairman Sapia noted that Town Clerk L. Jette asked to be placed on the June 4, 2007 agenda for a nonpublic session under Section 91-A:3 II (a). Chairman Sapia reviewed the subjects of the request and denied a nonpublic session because all of the issues involved were clearly defined in the Atkinson Personnel Handbook. He then put her request on the regular agenda, however Ms. Jette declined to discuss these items in public session and canceled her request. Chairman Sapia then suggested that Ms. Jette speak with Town Administrator R. McAllister to help resolve her concerns.
Chairman Sapia wished to discuss these issues with both Town Clerk Jette and Town Administrator McAllister on Friday, June 8, neither were expected to be at work that day. Chairman Sapia reiterated an earlier request that there be a visual calendar with attendance, vacation and other absences of employees’ from their usual work station.
