11:00am - Review of Video Equipment Bid and Design

Great Northern Video

Representatives from Great Northern Video provided a brief overview of the design and associated equipment. It was noted that the High Definition (HD) cameras were less expensive ($4,900) than the original specified standard definition (SD) studio cameras ($8,165 plus lens of $1,729 per camera, or approximately $9,900), but the HD cameras would provide a higher quality picture and remain relevant, technology wise, when the FCC mandated digital conversion occurred in February 2009. If a studio was approved and constructed in the future, then the HD cameras could be used in the field because they were more portable. This solution was less expensive and addressed the transition period between replacing the current cable equipment to improve better picture quality and the future when a studio might be constructed. Additional savings associated with utilizing the HD cameras versus the SD studio cameras resulted in not having to purchase multi-core cables for $3,400 and the more expensive tripods with attachments. It was explained that the broadcast would not be in HD because the cable companies had not provisioned the Town with the necessary bandwidth. Therefore, additional components downstream from the camera need not be HD enabled which also saved cost. Those components could be changed out when the cable companies provisioned the spectrum.

The Board engaged in a thoughtful discussion and made numerous inquiries. There being no further business to come before the Board Mr. Sullivan made the motion to adjourn. Mr. Sapia seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous and so moved. The meeting adjourned at approximately 12:30pm.

Respectfully,

Russell McAllister

Town Administrator
